SUMMARY

Project Summary The goal of this project is to develop oleophobic textured surfaces for controlled transport of oil droplets (microliter sized); mathematically modelling the droplet motion and using these surfaces for nanoparticle synthesis applications. Droplet-based systems are an alternative approach of fluid flow in microfluidics where samples are carried as discrete entities and these systems address two limitations of continuous flow systems which are cross-contamination between samples and diffusion limited mixing in laminar flows. These systems can also bring the advantage of addressing each sample individually and having a more controlled environment for chemical processes.
