SUMMARY
The atomic force microscope (AFM) is a versatile and powerful tool with the capability of nanometer-scale-resolution investigation of a large class of material surfaces. AFM is particularly advantageous in imaging biological materials due to the wide range of environments in which it may be operated. In this project, we perform high-resolution AFM measurements in air and liquids on biological materials relevant for a variety of applications. In particular, research efforts focus on high-resolution imaging and mechanical spectroscopy of bacterial functional amyloid nanofibers.
